If one were to make a basket catch, one wouldn't do so with the arms so high above the head, it seems to me. So I don't buy the "the gloves were different" thing. Also, the head is just perfectly positioned for a horizontal shot. Coincidence? Maybe. I think it probably is vertical given that all the horizontals seem to be in a different series, but I wouldn't say it's overwhelmingly clear from the picture and the vertical theory does raise some problems.
