I can honestly state, I've won cards without my max bids being met in Love of the Game, Mile High and Goldin.
Goldin on quite a few occasions. I don't like max bidding but sometimes it works out to get a card you want, esp of the next bid puts the price over VCP. |

I do the same thing for the same reason others have stated (trying to snag the last non-overpriced bid increment before anyone else does). I think it's a good strategy for common stuff. I just picked up a nice post-war HOF rookie for the same price someone else wanted to pay. Expect I'll do the same next week.
