Anyway, I love the sign...don't know much about it, figured it was around TOC...just has killer eye appeal to me and certainly makes the display with all the early Spalding gloves/equipment around it. That's actually a pic from last year, I've added a few more nice items to the display. I'd gladly post a few more pics of the display, sign and other displays I have...however I'm pretty sure all the pics would end up sideways like the first one, and maybe it's not the proper thread to post collection pics, as again it's my only advertising sign in the collection. Don't want to upset anyone here, which seems easy to do at times Anyone is welcome to contact me about my collection, always love to chat with fellow collectors...email me and I'll forward some pictures for you

Hey Mike, I bought it around 2010 from an elderly couple that pick in the county, and sell at an antique mall. I specifically asked about its provenance and was told that it was found just the day before I purchased it, hanging in an old barn. I've looked, but have never seen another. It was manufactured in St Thomas Ontario, and judging from the 15cent purchase price, I would guess it probably originates from early in the run of Chicago Cubs tobacco products issued by Rock City Tobacco in 1936. I also have a matching cardboard counter box that once held the plugs the sign advertises.

Dang...very nice...what's the dimensions?...the way they're making fakes these days...It's to the point now where I want to see some wear...If that was mint...or even just good condition it would make me worry...Congrats on a great find...even if it was 7 years ago...

Hey Carlton, how have you been? I'm not at home right now to measure, but if memory serves, its roughly 10" x 27 1/2".

The Chicago Cubs sign is a neat one. Have never seen that one before. Congrats on finding it!

Spalding sign measures 15" x 20"

This is the original artwork to a Little Golden Book (1960) for one of the pages of Flags. Its large, pristine and colorful. More importantly it reminds me that if not for these guys generation, I couldn't collect or have anything I enjoy.

Here's a couple of wooden Croft's Cocoa signs made by the American Joxyl Company of New York in the early 1910's.

My understanding from researching the company is that one of the primary uses for these would be for display on trolley cars and trains of the day.
