My god Jeff. Spectacular. That letter was written before the death of his father too. Amazing stuff.

With no Cobb's, Ruth's or Gehrig's in my collection, and being in awe of the cards I see in these threads makes me want to do the same thing!

I will first of all start by saying that I didn't know about this thread until this morning. Back a few weeks ago, I stumbled across the 1984 audio book biography of Ty Cobb by Charles Alexander. I thought it was interesting and it reaffirmed the idea that Cobb was a great ball player, but a terrible person for the most part. After listening to that audio book, I started looking up Cobb videos on YouTube. I stumbled across Charles Leehrsen and discovered his book A Terrible Beauty. I ordered the audio book and just finished it last night. A terrible beauty needs to be read (or listened to) by every baseball fan. It is a fantastic book. It really saddens me that Cobb is falsely made out to be such a monster. I'm glad Leehrsen set the record straight. This book has made me a Cobb fan. I don't have any of his cards, but I am wanting one really bad. Last edited by frankhardy; 09-02-2017 at 11:40 AM. |
