I don't think that any card (or postcard) could draw eight figures. I can think of only two players whose uniforms could even get close to this number-Ruth and Gehrig, and it would have to be a very special uniform. I doubt any Jackie Robinson uniform would even be close. My bet is that it is Gehrig's uniform from his "luckiest man" speech.

Jay - you just planted a seed....how about Babe Ruth's called shot Uniform and/or bat?

Jay- Lelands sold the luckiest man speech uniform around 1999.
An [authentic] Joe Jackson 1919 uniform could fetch millions (I doubt 8 figures though). I think the only piece that could approach 8 figures would be Jackie's debut uniform. Such historical importance. |

The 1919 Black Sox stolen confessions, would really like to see those surface again.

I have a hard time believing that Robinson's debut uniform could fetch 10 million. Something from Ruth? Yes. ....Gehrig? Possibly, but doubtful. .....Robinson? No. |

I'll rephrase. I'm not sure any one piece could reach $10M...I just believe that uniform could/would set records. If you watch Ken Burns' Baseball documentary, woven throughout the 10 episodes is the overarching theme that, along with Ruth, Robinson was the single most important figure in the game.
Well, I guess we'll see what Ken's got, soon. No pressure on him now.

I do not think that he owns the Ruth uniform anymore.
He did as of last year. I saw it, and had a picture taken of it. |

To me, the only two figures that would garner enough outside money to have any chance of reaching $10,000,000 would be Ruth or Jackie. No other sports figure in any sport could come close to that number I do not think. And even with Jackie or Ruth, it would be maybe only one item that could do it. For Jackie it would be his first game jersey. The historical significance of that piece would rightfully garner interest the world over. The only Ruth piece would be a rookie Red Sox jersey. Perhaps a Baltimore jersey.
If I had to take a guess which of the three above jerseys would go for the most money, my money would be on Jackie's first jersey. Assuming enough outside interest is brought in. Tom C |

Maybe the Babe gave a St. Mary's uniform to the same guy as he gave his catcher's mitt.
![]() J.C.'s post seems to be more than a guess though, it sounds like he knows it's Cy Young.

Someone would pay 10 million for the Wagner? Even after the truth behind the card came out?

The truth has been known about that card well before Mastro's admission and it never hurt the selling price.

It sold for 2.8 mil only 10 years ago before the Mastro admission. You think it'll appreciate 5 times along with the admission?

It would actually be less than 4x in appreciation by the way.

Finally whatever item it is that Goldin will be auctioning will most likely sell for considerably less than his promotional tour will suggest. |
