Vintage Autographed Card Thread
Didn't know if there was anything ongoing here so I thought I would start one.
A recent addition to my 1952 Topps set effort. RayB

It's a somewhat popular card but maybe it's the pencil signature, or maybe it's nothing at all, but I'm glad I won it. (Thought I took a scan of the flip? It's also a PSA authenticated card)

Nice cards Ray & Irv. Unlike collecting the regular '52 Topps - the signed versions have their own perceived rarities. I am starting to realize how difficult it is to collect the majority of a signed '52 set.
Is there a price guide for signed versions? This would yield some clue as to the rarities. |

Those individuals from this set who died in the last 20 years and are a part of the low number grouping are reasonably easy to get as the hobby for signed cards has exploded. Mind you they are still not cheap and will carry a premium over most ungraded cards (condition considered). HOF'ers are another matter. Most are pricey. Lastly; high numbers are really tough. Their original scarcity combined with the fact that most collectors of this set balk on buying them to try and get them signed has left the marketplace thin on available examples. All this added to the fact that most players are now deceased, makes this venture a very challenging one. There is a great article on this subject in a recent PSA SMR Magazine. Here's a little more eye candy: Lastly; this thread was meant to provide a space for recent signed acquisitions from any vintage set. Please feel free to share anything at all. RayB

Here's a few post war beauties:
• 1953 St. Louis Browns Team Issued Postcard signed by Don Larsen • 1956 Pittsburgh Pirates Team Issued Postcard signed by Bill Mazeroski • 1957 Cleveland Indians Team Issued Postcard signed by Roger Maris • 1957 Washington Senators Team Issue signed by Whitey Herzog

Feller
Ray--variant collectors seem to recognize at least 3 versions of the 52 Feller. Slats in background, no slats in background and very light slats in background. Could just be the scan but I do not see any slats in the one you posted

Luck of the draw here when I bought my raw card originally many years ago. Feller signed mine through the mail. RayB

I know there are a few on here who collect them, and like the article below reads, they are likely only going to increase in value. https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidse.../#318f35b67d55 Quote:

Is there a preference for grading services when it comes to signed cards?

Mine would be PSA. Also if you look to buy cards already slabbed, the PSA population is much larger. More to choose from and better chance what you are looking for is already slabbed.

Wow!
Congrats, Ted! Those would be awesome to own! Nice cards, Rats. I was following this one a bit after reading the story how hard this auto is to obtain. http://loveofthegameauctions.com/sig...-lot13198.aspx

Thanks Irv
I was told for years Meyers, and a few others couldn't exist. So far there is only one card in the set I can't account for, 16 have not been graded by psa but have sold somewhere in the last 20 years

Is the one you can't account for from a player who didn't prefer to sign autos, or did he pass away, like Myers, shortly after the 52's came out?

Neither, but had a car accident in 1958 and people might not have wanted his post-accident signature on a high numbered 52

So Campy, as far as you can tell, never signed any prior to his accident?

I have been acquiring signed cards for about 40 years, back before it was considered an enhancement to the cards.
I picked these up in 1977: I got this card back then too but had it signed at a show in the late 1980s: Cost me twelve bucks to get it signed. This one I picked up in the early 1990s: Got this card in the 1970s and had it signed at a show in the late 1980s: I think Feller was six bucks. Got this one signed on March 4, 1995: I can't believe it's been 22 years since I met Hammering Hank. Got these signed at a charity event some years ago: A recent acquisition, and a very, very tough type card: These are all signed at local card shows in the early 1990s: [IMG][/IMG] A TTM triumph: Meow!

Great stuff Adam! I'll bet even the Ballparks Promotion ticket with Aaron's image on it would sell for a pretty penny today.
Love the images. Thanks for sharing. RayB

I thought the ticket was so nice that it was a keeper, and a great COA for the autograph.
No one's said a word about Julie Newmar...buncha card nerds. That's why the hookers never come back to the convention hotels after the first night. One came up to me in Chicago and said "I'll do anything you want for $200." I said "Find me a T206 Cobb portrait with a green background." Never heard back from her.

No back story on the Howell. It was certainly treasured by the family at one point. Im sure hes probably long forgotten by now, having passed in 1990
