...we are not able to disclose the item yet, however it will be the first sports related collectible to have sold for 8 figures, no question.

8 figures? If racing, would most likely be a vintage Ferrari or Porsche from one of the storied races of yesteryear.

If I was the kind of guy who had a spare $10M laying around, I can't think of any sports memorabilia item I'd want to spend it on. Unless it was something with great appreciation potential. Will be curious to see what it is, but sounds like it's going to be the sort of thing that hopefully gets displayed in a museum by the new owner.

That's what I was thinking. For $10M I'd rather own a Monet, but who knows....there's probably more than one billionaire out there who is sick of looking at of all his Monets.

If it's what I think it is, see prior post and link, and the provenance is solid, then I do think it's going to go very high. I think it potentially could attract people who don't normally buy sports memorabilia as it has a broader historical import. Whether it goes as high as Ken is predicting, remains to be seen.

Maybe it's the Mets franchise? I guess if you have 2 or 3 bidders who really want the team, it could hit 8 figures.
