If you log in and look at your bids page, it will be empty but on the left hand column it will say this:

Start: 10/6/2017 2:00 PM EST
End: 10/29/2017 12:00 PM EST

And all of a sudden, the thread goes very quiet, as everyone scrambles to enter their placeholder bids, followed shortly by receiving their outbid emails....

Oh the irony, we count down the minutes until the auction opens, it seems an eternity. Then an hour later, we count down the minutes until the auction closes, it seems an eternity.

Rookie bidder, but what is the advantage of placing placeholder bids when you can just look at your watchlist the last day and prioritize what you can afford/want and then bid before it goes into extended bidding?
