Wow! That's a rare one! Good luck with the sale, I'm sure it'll go fast.
I've been working on a bio of Smyres for my blog "The Infinite Baseball Card Set". Besides refusing to sign autographs and unwilling to even discuss his baseball career, I have searched for 10 years for a photo of him to use as reference for an illustration - also with no results. Only think I've found is a circa 1980's team picture of softball team he was a coach of. I found a large, very clear team photo of the 1943 New Orleans Pelicans of which he was a starting member. I was all excited at finally getting a likeness of Smyres - only to find that in the small print below the photo the note "missing: C. Smyres"!!! |
