You have to bid by 10:00 pm CST on a lot to be eligible for the extended bidding portion which closes lot by lot after 30 minutes of no bids on that particular lot.
So either you were trying to bid on a lot that you had not bid on prior OR that lot had closed as of 10:30 pm CST as no one may have placed a bid during the extended bidding. Rereading your post, I would guess you were the only bidder and the lot closed at 10:00 pm CST Log into your Heritage account and look at "My Bids", this should have all the lots you bid on during the initial bidding, winners and losers.
