My dad told me at one time he had an entire set signed that he bought from 2 brothers who got them as kids back in the 30's and 40's. This was back in the 1970's and he said he had 2 of each Ruth and Gehrig (that's 12 total!). I remember one of each framed up on the wall of our house for many years. Sadly they are all gone but what can you do? I asked him after reading this post and he said yes, the ENTIRE set was autographed along with a Lajoie! So keep looking, you'll find them all eventually (I know there's at least ONE of each out there)!
Good hunting and congrats so far, Tony

Tony,
Thank you for sharing. That is incredible. I’d love some more information about where and when he sold them. There were a few guys like Wattie Holm who never played after the set was released so I was working under the assumption that those guys were probably impossible. Jason Quote:

Jason, I wish I could offer more info but that was back in the mid to late 70's. He did say he sold them one at a time and not as a whole set. My dad has a pretty good memory but not good enough (he's 78 this year) for the finer details. There was an article written about the sale of a T206 Wagner that he was involved in and he doesn't even remember that one very well! He insists the entire set was signed (and I do remember him having multiples of Ruth and Gehrig) so I have to take him on his word. Sorry I can't be of more help!

Tony,
If your Dad is Pat Quinn, from the Chicago area, he is correct (even if he can't remember all the details). I've dealt with him for 40+ years, and remember when he got the signed 1933 Goudey sets. I bought a bunch of the cards from him in the 1970s. Wish I had purchased more! Tom Last edited by Tom Hufford; 05-01-2018 at 10:37 PM. |

Tom, yes that's him. I'll mention you to him when I see him in a couple weeks. Thanks for backing up the story. Glad someone here was part of that moment.
