I was thinking the same thing. I remember as a kid when I started collecting cards and autographs, and going to shows in late 80s & early 90s I was always told not to get autographs on cards cause it would decrease the cards value. Not sure how true that was back then, but a lot of people told me that so it really surprises me now how many higher end cards are now autographed.

I was told the same thing, and also to never get an expensive rookie card autographed! I'm glad some people didnt listen.
I've been lucky enough to pick up 2 large TTM collections from the 30s to the early 50s, with envelopes and dates, as well as notes on how long responses took, and who didnt send cards backs. Sadly, 2 who didnt respond in the 50s were Jackie R and Joe D! It would have made for quite the collection! However the random and obscure cards, as well as vintage ballpoint not rushed autos, are always a thing of beauty, even if the player is still signing today.

If folks like Jeff Morey had gotten autographed T cards of Lajoie, Cobb, etc., in the mid-1950s and early 1960s, it is not surprising to me that plenty of collectors got the rookies and stars of the 1950s and 60s on their gum cards. After going through hundreds of pages of hobby periodicals, I can tell you that plenty of people did!

I think Doc Steen was focused on larger pictures, but we are lucky that he included M101-2s in his pursuits!
