I don't think you can go wrong collecting your favorite player. And it is always less expensive to add to your collection when that player is injured or in a slump. Now that is differant from buying 50 of his best rookie as an investment. I have a decent collection of Gary Sanchez, Aaron Judge,Gleyber, Andujar. And I keep adding too it. Will it be worth as much as my Mike Trout Cards? Probably not. But I enjoy them. And I enjoyed looking at your Aaron Judges, Thanks for sharing.

...or thereabouts - if this is investment/flipping stuff. Although there probably won't be much harm in waiting until he comes back and hoping for a bump at that point.
Another way of looking at it is if you can sell half of it and recoup your costs, you can let the other half ride, enjoy it and not have to care about what happens in the future. |

Judge is a phenom and has been awesome to watch. He’s 27 and has a hard time stayed my healthy. I don’t think his career numbers are going to be there at the end. That’s compared to a Trout who started young and piles on numbers.

With the exception of Mr. Trout, the new card market is real simple. If you sell while player is hot and everyone who wants those cards you will make money,.
If you hold out for maximum dollars, you lose a big percent of profit. if you buy on the downside and player makes another run, sell as quickly as possible If you buy on the downside and player never makes another hobby run but ends up with HOF type numbers, the hold will net you an eventual win, If you buy on the downside and the jig is up so to speak, then you are probably out most of that money. Would I be buying any Nick Stenzel's, Vlad Guerrero Jrs or other players who are on the up market right now. No, I'd be selling into the up market and not looking back. Most of the time I'm proved correct by doing so. Regards Rich

many failed investments on Rookie cards
I recently saw a modern collection of baseball cards mostly Rookie cards that had been sitting in a closet for many years I passed on the collection among the Rookie Card Gems were 400 Bob Hamelin former Rookie of the year 200 Ben Grieve 200 John Olerud 250 Kevin Maas 200 Jerome Walton former Rookie of the year 400 Mark Grace 500 1987 Topps Will Clark 500 1987 topps Bobby Bonilla 200 Ron Kittle former Rookie of the year obviously a band wagon jumper had he flipped them after one year he could have made a mint but here these duds were collecting dust in a closet going for pennies on the dollar and with no takers . MORAL OF THE STORY IF YOUR GOING TO LOAD UP ON UNPROVEN PLAYERS with less than 5 years under their belts GET A BIGGER CLOSET Last edited by megalimey; 05-05-2019 at 08:57 AM. |
