Need help from 1963 Exhibit Stat Back Experts
I recently came into possession of this 1963 Exhibit Red Stat Back Billy Williams in the SGC holder. Don't think I have ever seen one of these that also appears to have a red/brown front, I have only ever seen the very crisp B&W like I have in the PSA holder. Everything about the card appears to be legit, just wondering what the deal is with the Red/Brown tint opposed to the B&W. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm certainly no expert in this area, but can only offer the following similar images from of a different player, same set, one with a quite distinct reddish hue compared to the norm.
(though I had cropped off the cert #s in scanning, I'm looking right at them and can assuredly confirm these are both PSA slabbed as " '63 exhibits stat back" with no further distinction, so I had always figured it was just a printing glitch that some turned out that way, rather than indicating a separately identifiable issue) |

Can someone post pictures of the backs
These have been heavily reproduced. The reproductions have a gray back where the originals are more cream colored.

They look good from here
Those do not look like the gray back reprints I have seen. I think there is someone her on net54 that specializes in exhibit cards - hopefully he will chime in.

Both of my Williams cards are cream colored back. I also heard back from Adam, and he informed me that the 1963 Exhibit Stat backs had both B&W and a Sepia coloring to them. Thanks for the help on this one, I don't think there is any value difference between the B&W and Sepia variations, but would have to think the Sepia cards are a little rarer than the B&W.

63 Exhibit tints
Gentlemen:
PLEASE don't get me started on the 63 Exhibit tints!! I have been pursuing them for years. I have found that there are 4 distinct tints. If you see the scan below ( Sorry I cut off the bottom of the lower two.) Hopefully the scan will show you: Upper Right Red Tint Upper Left B&W Lower Right light sepia Lower Left dark sepia I guess you could argue these are three tints, Red, B&W and sepia with the two sepia's being one . My findings are the red and B&W are harder to find than the "normal" Exhibit sepia tint. I am looking for some in all tints. If you have any PLMK Best, Fred I have been trying to attach the photos but keep getting this message Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing. |

Maybe I've missed it along the way somewhere, but I still find myself wondering about the main answer my mind is after, which is, are the different tints just circumstances of the printing process for the Exhibits, or are they deliberate, meaning they can be considered in some way a different published "issue" of the item??

The different tints are certainly different printings. You don't need the red or B&W tints to make the sepia I don't think. So it is not circumstances of the printing process as you asked. Most likely just a matter of what color ink they put on the press at the time of the printing. In my eyes the Sepia, B&W and the reddish tint are three different sets to collect. Think of the Exhibit Football cards that came in green, yellow, blue, red etc. or later reprint Exhibit sets, Pizza Royale and other sets issued in different colors/tints |
