Marty,
I don't have anything on your list, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on minor league issues such as the 1966 Dallas-Fort Worth Spurs Ron Law card you posted. For reasons I don't remember, I came across a Worthpoint record on the sale of that card, and was intrigued enough to save a copy of the listing. It intrigued me because I've never seen anything else about a minor league issue from that team in that year. But I remember seeing a message board post from a '60s minor leaguer (of some other team) basically stating that minor league cards at that time were fairly common--just were not widely distributed outside of their localities. So is it your impression that there are a number of '50s-'60s, maybe '70s minor league sets out there that have just never been catalogued? |

Hello Mr. Hungo,
I do have a suspicion of many uncatalogued issues from said years. How many, who knows. As we know, cards are (were) a great marketing tool, so I see no reason why local businesses wouldn't use their towns minor league clubs as an advertisement opportunity. Many of the towns are quite small so, some of the card issues may have disappeared into history. As for the Dallas/FW cards. Don't know why the cards would be uncatalogued. Maybe low distribution left this issue in history too. Fellow Net54 member says they may have been released by a construction company. I'm still researching the set. I also found the image on worthpoint. I search Canadian born players. I have found another issue which was not listed in Bob' guide. Some sort of Padres set from the '50's . Large than a standard card. but smaller than a PC. So yup, I've been surprised before. Cheers!

Thanks Marty. Amazes me that there could be all sorts of post-war minor league cards out there (or formerly out there) that are completely unknown to the hobby--and may always be.
