Oddest All-Star Pairings
By that I mean post the two guys you find it hardest to believe have the same number of All-Star Appearances.
I'll start: Steve Sax and Frank Thomas have the same number of All-star appearances with 5 each.

Robin Yount and Andy Pettitte were both 3 time all stars
Hard to believe Yount, a two-time MVP. 3,000 hit club member, and HOFer, was only on the team 3 times. |

I agree on Yount, but there's gotta be a guy worse than Pettite who's made 3. I was torn between Steve Sax and Buddy Rosar at 5 games and I'd take Pettite over either one of them!

I have a good one but I guess it comes with an asterisk:
Babe Ruth and Cristian Guzman were both 2 time all stars. |

LOL yeah I thought about going that route but it seemed like cheating. Let's keep it to guys whose careers started after 1933.

Tim Salmon, Kirk Gibson, and I all have made zero all star games.

Mike Schmidt and Elston Howard 12 games. The greatest 3rd baseman in NL history and a non Hall of Famer. How was Schmidt not in more games?
Albert Pujols and Harvey Kuenn 10 games. The best player of the last 40 years and another non Hofer. How does Pujols only make 10 AS teams? |

Howard and Kuenn at 12 and 10 are crazy

Gibson was selected twice, he just opted not to go both times.

Theres such a lack of good catchers, I guess the good and semi-decent ones stand out. John Stearns was a 4X All-Star.

HOFer Fergie Jenkins, winner of the Cy Young award in 1971 and a top 3 finisher 4 other times has the same number of all star appearances (three) as sometimes average closer Jay Howell.

Johnny Edwards, Jim Wilson and Jack Kramer at 3 along with HOFers Fergie Jenkins, Robin Yount and likely HOFer Omar Vizquel.

How many of these came after they started the rule that every team had to have someone on the ASG roster?

Yes, the rule that gave us such gems as “two time all-star Scott Cooper”’.

Well considering the rule is from 1935, pretty much all of them.

I thought it was much newer than that, sometime in the 1980's or early 90's?
