I bought my postcards directly from the hall of fame unsigned. Most shops around town in Cooperstown had them autographed and for sale.

Here's a pretty good article on the PSA website. Not totally comprehensive but a good read. Bottom line, whether you buy slabbed or raw, make sure you know if it was possible for the person to have signed the card. Only about 104 could have possibly signed, and of those there are a handful that had a very small window before they died.

I was one of the initial subscribers to the original postcards, and got all of them through Perez-Steele Galleries.

The first six series contained 30 cards each, and were released in 1980 & 1981. The later series were issued every two-three years, beginning in 1983, and finishing in 2001. In total, 15 series of cards were issued.

Some of the cards were also available from the Hall of Fame itself, but I don't know of any that were issued autographed. As far as I know, it was entirely up to each collector to get any of them autographed.

I was fortunate to get the Richie Ashburn signed as he had a very short window between issue and his death. I was heavy into P-S issues at the time and sent his to him not long after I received it.
