As has been discussed here previously (and I slightly paraphrase the earlier comments as follows): Jake Daubert was very unpopular with the baseball "powers that be" because he was one of the first to try to unionize the players and was the head of the Baseball Players' Fraternity. He was a trailblazer and as a result looked at as a troublemaker by the owners and by the writers to a large degree which is highly likely why he is not in the HOF.

And I was thinking if McGraw is on the list, certainly Comiskey should be there. His players hated him so much they..... you know.......

My opinion of Ty Cobb changed after reading “Ty Cobb - A Terrible Beauty” and realizing that most of what I knew about him was based on flawed information published by Al Stump and never questioned by film makers and documentaries. He wasn’t a saint, but most likely not the devil he is portrayed as (and what people love to hear).

Dave Parker and Van Mungo come to mind. Also, Gandil.

Y’all should have witnessed the hate heaped on Cal Ripken Jr. when he said on national television that Adrian Beltre was a better 3B than Brooks Robinson. There has alway been a segment of Baltimore that’s looked at Ripken as too corporate and national.

Interesting thread......always hear Willie Mays is not a nice person. He's 88, is he still ornery?

It's crazy, five of my all-time favorites (Schilling, Manny, Pedro, Strawberry, and last but not least Kong) made the list of 50. I think they are all awesome!

That's like having Pedro Guerrero or Ralph Garr in your Top 5. Then...... I read the small byline you have on your threads.....you DO like KONG! I saw him many times (as I'm from Chicago) swat that ball out of Wrigley many times.......I'd like to see them measure that launch angle. He was hitting 12 inch softballs onto Waveland like swatting flies. Last edited by Shoeless Moe; 12-27-2019 at 07:02 PM. |
