![]() I don't agree with the comment...."He was not a nice man". July 17, 1982, I met Joe DiMaggio at a Baseball card show in Freehold, NJ. I started the conversation with.... " Today, 41 years ago in Cleveland, your amazing 56-game hitting streak ended ". Joe paused a moment and replied....." You know what, you are right. How did you know that ? " I told him....." I did my homework. Furthermore, I do not believe your hitting streak will ever be surpassed. " I was the last one in line to get Joe's autograph, and he was very gracious to spend about 20 minutes talking with me. With me being an avid Yankees fan (with a lot of fond memories to share with Joe) made for a very enjoyable conversation. Joe DiMaggio was a very conservative guy, who also valued his privacy. And this may have been misconstrued by some who thought he was not a friendly guy. 1941 Wirephoto TED Z T206 Reference . |
