My church had its Sunday service via Zoom.

A close friend of mine happens to be an immunologist at Oxford University (Formerly at Harvard Medical School and the Portuguese national institute of medicine, with her doctorate from Oxford). She correctly predicted to me the widespread of the virus (She said it would be much more widespread than then advertised), but said the death rate would be much lower than advertised. Essentially, she says compare it to the seasonal flu not the black plague. She also predicted it would become a seasonal thing from now on, just like the flu. I trust her opinion on the matter over anyone else I know.

So think prudence, as with the flu season, not panic.

I'm no medical expert, but the funny thing is the people with no formal medical knowledge I've encountered who disagree with her opinion. I said to someone who said what said is wrong: "With respect, you're a 20-year-old barista serving me a coffee at the corner coffee shop. She's at Oxford."

The biggest worry at this point is healthcare providers... their ability to quickly and efficiently treat respiratory illness that comes from this virus. Especially for the elderly.

There is no proven protocol to diagnose and treat this yet. Treating it like a normal flu until further notice is not something i'd like to see happen.

There is a local show this weekend I wanted to go to, hope it is open. Worst case would be that it could be the last one I'd get to go to for awhile. I still haven't finished sorting the cards I got at the last one!

In addition to the Governor banning all events with 250 people or more, they just announced that all Seattle area schools will be closed for the next 2 weeks, at a minimum.

So all concerts, sporting events, conventions, trade shows, religious gatherings, etc. are cancelled in the state of Washington, until further notice. I imagine this will continue well into April.

It's devastating to the economy here… many restaurants have already gone out of business, and parts of the Downtown that were thriving just a couple weeks ago now resemble a ghost town. So many jobs already negatively impacted or threatened... Costco HQ isn't even taking appointments for presentations (or returning emails). I'm sure it's the same with many other businesses.

I drive for LYFT on the side, but am taking a very prolonged break. My son is a waiter, and has had his hours cut by 75%. I'm pretty sure there will be a good percentage of Card Shows cancelled across the country. With all of the older people who attend, hoards of bodies under one roof, and the massive shared handling of goods, it's probably prudent to postpone these types of non-essential public events.
