The Orioles Class AA affiliate in 1961 was located in Little Rock, Arkansas. The Travelers played in the Southern Association and finished with a record of 80-73. Compared to a few of the other O's affiliates, the Travelers played to a huge average crowd of 1,782.
The team featured a bunch of names that should be familiar to most die hard O's fans. Some played for the Orioles themselves and a few made their name for other teams. These included Cal Ripken Sr, Pat Gillick and Bo Belinsky, Jim Fridley and Bob Nelson. If I remember right, Little Rock produced another pretty good ballplayer. ![]() 1961 Little Rock Travelers.jpg Other team members to play in Baltimore included Jim Lehew, Dave Nicholson, John Papa, Pete Ward and Bob Saverine.
