Just for the record, in case anyone has the time and energy to research it further, a distillation
of the conflicting accounts makes the second game of the July 12, 1906 doubleheader at Chicago the overwhelmingly likely date of the "double bonehead" event. We haven't yet found an authoritative newspaper account of the bizarre play.
