Day 140 (May 19, 2020 – 140)
Ticket to gain entrance in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum dated May 19, 2003. Nice grouping of Brooks items pictured on the ticket. I enjoy visiting the Hall of Fame, but haven’t been in the past few years. I “need” to get back there. Day 140 a .jpg Let’s not even get started on the players who don’t belong or should be in… Friends of the Hall of Fame card with Brooks on the front from 2003. Posted for Clint (ksfarmboy)
Clint stated that, "This doll was given to me by fellow Net54 collector Dan Bretta. Dan’s mom hand makes different players from history for him such as Jackie Robinson. I feel very lucky to have him as a friend and for his mom to think about me and make me this special treasure." Doll.jpg Looks like a very nice item and a very generous gift. |

That Brooks doll may show up on the Antiques Roadshow 100 years from now. Neat little piece of folk art !

One thing I do remember about Game 7 of the '79 World Series was that the late Pat Kelly made the final out.
I've always been a fan of Pat and here is a 1980 alternate orange GU Jersey of his along with a late 1970's game used H&B bat: ![]() ![]() And a Game Used Cap: ![]() ![]() Last edited by roarfrom34; 05-19-2020 at 10:56 AM. |

There have been some nice alternate orange jerseys being posted lately. In 1977, the Orioles used the alternate jersey for many of their team issued postcards. It marked the last postcards printed of Brooks as a player. The Orioles have done several postcards of Brooks after his retirement for various signing opportunities. This also marked the first postcards of a young Eddie Murray.
I believe both Brooks and Eddie were probably double printed on the sheets, as both have multiple variations that included either a cropping or name placement change. The backs are blank, except for two postcards. The Orioles reused 1976 postcards of Al Bumbry (I don't have) and Jim Palmer (2nd one) and printed a message to planholders encouraging them to come watch the 1977 Orioles. There could be other players that were reused with the spring training message. I would love to know if there are others out there. 1977 Postcards 01.JPG 1977 Postcards 02.jpg 1977 Postcards 03.jpg 1977 Postcards 04.jpg 1977 Postcards 05.jpg 1977 Postcards 06.jpg 1977 Postcards 07.jpg 1977 Postcards 08.jpg 1977 Postcards 09.JPG SCAN8395.JPG |

Alan:
Those postcards bring back good memories for me because in 1978 I purchased my first Baseball Address list from Jack Smalling and that style postcard were among the first that I sent to the players to sign... Have you ever seen this Bill Ripken customized postcard (postmarked 08/26/88) with the message about an upcoming cruise? ![]() ![]() Last edited by roarfrom34; 05-19-2020 at 07:55 AM. |

As I have been something of a burden to one of the main contributors here (Hi, Alan!) I thought I might try and contribute a little about the main subject here.
Since I got back into the hobby almost 10 years ago, my collecting has gone off in a number of directions. One long term project I started early on was working on a signed 1963 Fleer set. I currently have autographed versions of 63 out of 66 cards in the set . One of the early additions to the set was Brooks Robinson. I sent my card off to a 2102 public signing. ![]() Even though I know it is good, at some point after I realized my signed 1963 Fleer set represented an investment for my eventual heirs, I had it authenticated by PSA. The second Brooks item came to my through the same project. I sent a card off to a private signing with Chris Potter Sports. He ended up losing the card and refunding me my money. At some point later, as he was winding down that business, he found the card and sent it back along with some freebie autographed cards by way of apology. This included a Brooks autographed card which is, without a doubt, the freakiest card I have ever seen. It is a 1998 Fleer SI Art of the Game card. ![]() Seriously, this card haunts my dreams. |
