1989 Donruss Dave Smith Print Defect
Pulled this from a rack case within the last year. Only card in the case like it.
I assume this isn’t some high dollar rarity...please correct me if I should be quitting my job. |

Me personally, if you put it on eBay for $10 or so I would probably buy it but I wouldn't go higher. Being junk wax makes a huge difference, if that was a 60's-70's Topps card I would go higher. I have gotten some on eBay over the years if they are priced reasonably.

Extra cool as his hand also appears in 'black and white', not just the area within the affected circle shape. I'd pay $10-$15ish for it just because it's cool, doubt many would go higher, but you never know.

Back in the 1980s and 1990s, I remember dealers would use miscuts, print defects, and the like as packing materials for "good" cards.

Thank you all for the replies. Even $10 for an 1989 Donruss card...that'd make it probably the most valuable card in the case (of 3,240 cards).
I honestly expected the answer to be more in line with what cardinalcollector said...something like "it's worth 25% of a regular 1989 Donruss Dave Smith card". I may go ahead and list it on eBay and see what it brings. |

Something similar from 1989
I had not seen this type of defect on a Donruss card before, so I found that interesting good luck with the auction |

As for pricing it has always been a crap shoot on what they will sell for. Like most cards they get hot and prices go way up. Then they cool down and prices drop like a rock. Here is a cool DS print error I have. I have a few with the big white spots someplace. |

We’ll all remember that game where Jose Rijo’s arm was eaten by that swarm of locusts.

The Smith sold for $16.09, for anyone wondering. Can’t complain!

I was the underbidder. This card is very interesting, because of the uniqueness of the splotch. There are others shown here and I've seen others, but this one has the color of his skin missing on his hand in the glove, looking black and white, but text and elements over this area preserve their full, proper color. Cool card

Actually he is wearing a white batting glove. I checked other copies just to see and all of them have the white hand.

I'll leave this post as a testament to my great stupidity. It looks like an odd shade of white, but you are correct, they all look this way.

And that glove has to be really tight as you can make out his fingernails through it.

really cool smith card. congrats to whoever landed it.
i was going through some old cards and found a pretty weird 1985 topps cal ripken card with these orange bubble circles all over it. the card itself is worn in the corners, but anyone know if this is normal or somewhat unique? i tried to upload the pic, but am pretty technologically challenged. said upload failed. edit - maybe it worked at least a little bit... rsz_img_2047-min.jpg Last edited by hockeyhockey; 07-28-2020 at 07:48 PM. |

Looks like fisheyes, caused by debris on the offset blanket.
In general, they're pretty common, and they can be very transient, lasting anywhere from one impression to.... hundreds? There are a lot on that card, and more severe cases aren't al that common. |

thanks for the feedback - seemed like a bit of an anomaly with so many of them. never saw that on a card before. given the shape of the card, think it's worth anything? i have a few mint ripkens same card, so easy to move it.

I like printing errors, but I'm cheap. I'm sure someone will readily pay more for it than I would.
