Actually he is wearing a white batting glove. I checked other copies just to see and all of them have the white hand.

I'll leave this post as a testament to my great stupidity. It looks like an odd shade of white, but you are correct, they all look this way.

And that glove has to be really tight as you can make out his fingernails through it.
