Old timers games were popular in the 1980's and 90's. Equitable sponsored games in Baltimore in 1987, 1988 and 1989. Here are those programs. Quite easy to find. 1987 Equitable Old-Timers Game - Copy.jpg 1988 Equitable Old-Timers Game - Copy.jpg 1989 Equitable Old-Timers Game - Copy.jpg A lesser known game took place in Phoenix, in February 1990, between the 1969 Chicago Cubs and the 1969 Orioles. It was promoted as the Dream Game and the World Series that might have been. The game benefited the Phoenix Memorial Hospital Foundation in Phoenix. In addition to the game was a dinner and banquet. I wish I knew the score.. Dinner Program SCAN9673.JPG Game Program 1990 Exhibition Game (Phoenix) - Copy.jpg If everyone listed in the program showed up, that's a pretty nice group of players. Look how we have lost, from that list, since 1990. SCAN9674.JPG Souvenir Hat from game 9f0cb7ba981ea1acd8a6fca7f97008b8.jpg |

Day 301 (October 27, 2020 – 301)
On January 31, 1971 the New York Baseball Writers’ held the 48th Annual Dinner. The cover is pretty cool with a drawing of Brooks’ glove with an air quote from Brooks, “Pardon my Glove, Sparky!” Day 301 Publication 1971 NY Baseball Writers' 48th Annual Dinner.jpg |

Day 302 (October 28, 2020 – 302)
This is the transparency used for the 1963 Topps Brooks Robinson #345. It may have been the transparency used for the 1964 Brooks Topps card as well since it’s the same photo, but unsure. I tried to get it to look as nice as possible but didn’t want to take it out of the holder to try and do better. It’s good enough, I think… 1963 Topps #345 transparency Day 302 a 1963 Topps #345 Transparency.jpg A signed 1963 Topps #345 entombed by PSA. For over 50 years, the Bluefield Orioles in West Virginia served as an Orioles affiliate. In the 80's and 90's, Bluefield had some attractive programs. Surprisingly, programs from much of that period are difficult to find.
I really like the 1991 program. The Orioles finished 36-31, in the short season Appalachian League, and were managed by Gus Gil. Bluefield averaged a little over 1600 fans per game, which I believe is pretty good for a Rookie level team. The Orioles produced five players that played in the major leagues, but only Rick Krivda played for the Orioles. The other four included Vaughn Eshelman, Scott McClain, Bobby Chouinard and B.J. Waszgis. 1991 Bluefield Program 1991 Bluefield Orioles.jpg Rick Krivda team issued photo Krivda, Rick 2.jpg Scott McClain and B.J. Below is a ticket stub to the 1990 Dream Game ('69 Cubs vs '69 Orioles) that Alan posted about before. I have an extra ticket stub, if anyone is interested, please PM me. I am also still looking to purchase a game program. Thanks! 1990 Dream Game 69 Cubs vs Orioles tix.jpg |

On November 10th and 11th of 1994 The Don Drysdale Hall of Fame gold tournament was held at the Desert Falls and Rancho La Quinta golf courses. The event was to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Coachella Valley. Below is Brooks’ metal golf tag from the benefit event. Back in 1985, I responded to an ad in Sports Collectors Digest from a woman who was a talented artist who recently started painting baseballs and I commisioned her to paint balls of Cal, Eddie & Brooks...I thought the work she did was so good I then asked if she ever painted portraits on a bat.. She replied she hadn't but the thought had crossed her mind and if I sent her up a bat, she'd give it a try at no cost... Here is the result (signed years later by CRJ who even remarked how much he liked it):

That bat is outstanding. Please post some pics of the baseballs. I would love to see them. Do you remember anything about the artist? I think I see some initials of the artist under the portrait. It would be cool if she was indeed from Maine. I have a couple of paintings in my collection. The first one I received for Christmas from my wife in 1983. The artist was in the mall doing portraits for families. She did the Brooks Robinson from one of his postcards. 1983 Brooks Robinson painting by Grace Eng DSCN2167.jpg The second painting of Jim Palmer was done by an artist named H.E. Halvorsen. I haven't been able to find any info about the artist. I picked it up at a card show in the mid 1980's. Interesting hat design? I don't remember the Orioles wearing that version. Day 317 (November 12, 2020 – 317)
A small 1968 Plans of action foldout booklet, with Brooks on the cover, which discusses ticket plans for the season. Day 317 a Plans of Action 1968 Ticket Plans.jpg Here’s an interesting photo of Brooks, in an away game at Fenway Park, helping the grounds crew (do you think Brooks wants to play baseball or what?). I don’t have all the information, but I think it’s a game from June 2, 1968 where the Orioles beat the Red Sox 4-3. Day 317 b Photo 1968 Ground Crew June 2 1.jpg |

Nice artwork....I have the painted baseballs in a storage bin right now, but I'll get them out..When I first met the artist she was Sue Bogyo, but she now goes by Suzanne Wolf and her website is www.suzannewolf.com; I originally thought she was from Maine but I now beleive she is from the mid-west.. I have a few pieces of Cal Jr. artwork & here is an original painting by Eric Cash that was used for an Upper Deck card of him back in 2007...The artist conveniently didn't finish the lower right hand corner of the painting (since it wouldn't be seen on the card) and it was the perfect spot for me to have Cal sign/inscribe it: ![]() ![]()
