Picked up a cheap upgrade for my blue, "Giant on the bridge." I don't know if they were the same color to begin with. I also don't know if the lesser grade had a yellow bridge that faded or never got that color at all.

Judging from that Giant's hat and sleeves, I'd say the bridge was never colored. That upgrade looks great. Very vibrant.

Haven't bought much lately but was mildly interested in this, primarily because I haven't received a package in what seems like weeks...but not for this kind of money. WOW

That's a funky looking Dallas pennant.
Speaking of funky, I picked up this Astros pennant over the weekend at a Houston Antique mall. I know it looks plain, but it is strange for one of these seemingly common Astrodome pennants. The dome area is almost always colored, either the dome itself or the area around the dome. And there is always an MLB logo of copyright C in pre-MLB logo versions. This one has neither. It also has a cloth spine. Compare with the pic of a pennant from 1974, that has the typical color around the dome. |

I just noticed the cursive font is different...and the "GIANTS" in the one I had is "squattier." My new pick up is not a Mitchell & Ness.

Very nice upgrade, Rob...
I’ve noticed that lots of these are more bland than others, and that there are two different fonts. Just another excuse to have two of this great pennant. One of the most undervalued Pennants IMHO. |

I had noticed the "San Francisco" is more stretched out on some Trench pennants than others. But, in 25+ years of collecting Giants pennants, I had never noticed the backwards vs. forwards "F". Of my Trench pennants with the exact same block, shadowed GIANTS, 20 have the forward F while only 3 have the backwards F.

If pennants were collected like cards, could you imagine the money some of these subtle variations would bring?
I'm glad they're currently affordable, but hoping the prices take off right before it's time to liquidate. Just like the Mariners winning a world series... It could happen!

The variations keep me entertained while waiting for the really cool stuff.

While we're on the subject of cool and cheap variations...and with Rob showing his latest left handed batter variation...I thought I'd share this. I'm typically not a Cooperstown or HOF pennant collector. But this one was too cool and cheap to pass up.

Here are my three SF Mullin Giants ... all three have subtle differences, middle one is turquoise and is missing the little baseball mark, also GG is white. Pennant at top is purple.

Lots of variability on the Trench pennants, actually ... here are two versions of the same Redlegs ... one on left is older (presumably 1956-57) with TMC mark, right has the baseball mark and team name stretches much longer towards the tip.

Attention Mr. Domer: Came to a realization that this here pennant must be a Keezer. For one, it is one color with the standard thick tassels. But I’ve only seen this for the 1946 and 1948 WS, both of which had teams from Boston. (Keezer was in NH.) The 1948 which I don’t own was made two-sided with Braves on reverse, which helps identify others of similar style from the late 1940s including some roster pennants.
What I can’t figure out is ... why is there a 9 on the pitcher’s chest? Last edited by thetahat; 12-15-2020 at 08:35 AM. |

Quote:
The Braves one is technically two-color; so if that's by them, it would be an anomaly. That "9" looks really bizarre! I do have an explanation for it. The artist tossed it on there to appeal to the hometown/Sox fans' favorite player: Ted Williams, who wore #9 ![]() In my view, the Williams connection further supports your argument that this '46 pennant was indeed made by Felt Crafters/Keezer. Nice work!

Wow, Bob! Congrats!
I'm curious what percentage of pennants do you guys find on ebay? For me, it's about 95%, but I'm not a "heavy hitter."
