eBay tells me I have sold 1,072 items in the last 12 months. Of those, I'd guess 1,000 were shipped in a top loader (taped shut) and taped to the packing slip folded in 3rds (as bnorth mentioned above).
I've gotten ZERO complaints about damage, and maybe five issues where the buyer claimed no delivery. One of those, the card came back about a week later and the buyer happily bought it again. If this gives a little extra piece of mind with the tracking, I think it's worth a try.
