While this thread has the eyes of the experts on it, I would appreciate your opinions on these cards. They came out of a collection built in the 1970's - 1980's, but I have read there were fakes of these cards floating around back then. Do any of these look legit? I have assumed they were fakes. Thanks!

I'm always up for an excuse to show these, including a rare HAJ variation:

Kris, the Henry Johnsons in that group you posted are bad. Sorry.
If you compare the back stamp to the others in this thread (except Val's green one, which is different - and authentic, and super rare), you'll see that the "Henry Johnson" in yours is a non-serif typeface. "Henry Johnson" on the authentic ones is a serif typeface. My understanding is that yours came out of the 1970s. -Al |

I agree with Al, there were a lot of fakes made in the '70's of those cards. I have several of them.

Thanks, Al and Larry. As I suspected, but glad to have it confirmed.

Quote:
They all originated from a woman in the 1970’s that made her own fakes and ripped off the collectors of the day. Her name was Linda, nearly all 1970’s collectors were ripped of in some way by her.

I don't have any of these suspect Kendig/Johnson cards, but I do have a question. Are the cards legit W575's, and just have a stamp applied, or were the cards created in the 1970's by this nefarious Linda woman? (I used 'nefarious' because I remember a 1970's hobby publication that used this word in conjunction with the obviously evil Linda).
Looking at the image provided, they seem to possibly be authentic cards (minus the fake stamping). Brian |
