Tom, good luck with the set, but all you have to do is convince Bob to sell you his set. Then you'll have the grade you are looking for and maybe a little better. If you've been following this thread since it started, you know what I mean.

Bob Kuzava. A very tough, harshly graded card, imo, for having such a minute wrinkle on the back.

Dale, I agree that the card looks much nicer than a 3 unless the back is really rough. Here's my Kuzava. I usually try to avoid cards that are this badly miscut so not sure what happened when I bought this one.

I snuck my Vern Stephens card back into my "I like pogs" post so the pictures would be in order. Forgive me.

My Kuzava.

Edited to add:
I'd take a whole collection of PSA 3's that looked like that one, Dale!

Not rough at all, just the wrinkle like I mentioned.
I guess grading standards are what they are, but when you see many 3's that look far worse than this one, it sure makes you shake your head sometimes.

I tried but finding them as harshly graded as this one was wasn't easy nor was I successful.

Edit: I just now decided to have another look at this card and since I doubt my eyes have improved since 2016, I'd say this card was most likely pressed/ironed, or whatever else they do, as the small/tiny wrinkle that noticed back in 2016 has now grown/shown back up and is easily 3-4 times the length as what I originally saw.
The scan doesn't show it well enough but it is near "came up" and runs down to "1948 seasons, he"

Dale, I see a faint line on the back that must be the wrinkle you are indicating, but since it is apparently not visible on the front, it really doesn't detract from the eye appeal of the card so still a really nice 3 even if the grade is technically correct.

I agree, Jay, and as Bob said, I'd still take 3's like this, despite the wrinkle, any day of the week.

A set where gray on the back on some cards may be worth more than Gray on the front.

Coogan is not listed as having a variant in the H&S Super set but it does have 2 recurring variants both involving irregularities in the top front border. Dale's Coogan above has one of them

Feller is listed for a variant in the H&S Super set. But before that Dick Gilkeson and Richard Dingman had both included the Feller in their variations compilations from the 80s and 90s. It is sometimes listed a clear or hazy , or with or without slats. There is not doubt the slats in the background are more prominent on some cards and almost completely faded on others. I do not think I have seen a version where every trace of the slats is gone.

Like the red versus orange background Crandall, the difference may be in the eye of the beholder

Thanks for letting us know about these variations and the like, Al. They are very interesting and informative.

If I am not mistaken the Feller card is much harder to find without the slats, or the faded version, than it is with them more visible?
