I messaged a bit with a friend who collects film, and did a brief bit of looking.
Person to person was done as a multi camera live feed, with wireless audio. Pretty amazing for 1953. They would have had to film it from a special television onto usually 16mm film. That way reruns could be done later (Or rebroadcast on the west coast for network shows) I was a bit surprised that some episodes are available. The first episode with Campanella wasn't one I found, but if the others are out there there's hope because it shows the copies were made. Whether any of that episode survived is another matter.
