For cards in the 63 Rose category that I’m buying online I tend to buy slabbed and then crack open. I know that still doesn’t offer 100% protection against forgery but it’s a little extra insurance.
I bought an ungraded Reggie Jackson rookie on eBay that looked fine on the scans but that I could tell was counterfeit when it arrived. Same thing happened with a 62 Maris. I want to avoid that hassle in the future as much as possible. |

When putting my 60s sets together there was only 2 cards I insisted on buying slabbed and that was the 67 Seaver and the 63 Rose. I popped my Seaver and left the Rose in its case. I then bought a nice reprint for the binder. Im a collector and not a reseller as well but I still felt with so many fakes out there I should keep it slabbed. My reprint sadly looks really good.
I didnt search for an OC example, but mine is a bit...its an SCG 4....and I love mine.
