The PWCC example was a horrid looking 5. Its not in the same class as the REA example which recently ended.
Two totally different cards in my opinion no mater what the flip reads.

It's a market I watch as well as I own a 4. I think there are a couple of factors contributing to the softening online sales. I think the fevered pitch buying with crazy prices is coming down to earth is due to a fairly finite pool that are willing to pay big money for that card. Population wise, it sits around 1,275 graded, so not widely available, but not super rare either. PWCC tanked the market in the spring when they had 3 PSA 4's in the same sale, closing at the same time. It made no sense to me, but it definitely brought prices down. What you are left with is folks who are looking for well centered, well registered examples, which in the leaf world are tough to come by. So for those looking to buy, not concerned about he eye appeal, it's probably a great time to grab the card. Those looking for pristine examples, will pay closer to the bar that was set in the summer, as a smaller number of those are available, and folks seem willing to pay up to get them. All that said, I did talk to a dealer at the National who said that he had sold a PSA 2.5 on the first day for $26k cash. Without seeing the card, I don't know if my theory holds water or not.My two cents, and WAY out of my piggy bank.

I could not let this thread slip into the 2nd page, where it would fade away into "never-never land". So, here is my "2 cents" on this subject.
Funny I said that, since as a 10-year old, I spent 2 pennies on this JRobby (and a 2nd one) in the Spring of 1949. What is going on in this hobby nowadays with these crazy prices for certain cards, which just a year (or two) ago were selling for reasonable prices, is absolutely mind-boggling. I feel that in the long term, this forebodes misfortune....to the degree that may devastate this hobby as we now know it. ![]() TED Z T206 Reference . |

So even though current prices may not hold quite this high, I'd like to be optimistic for the long-term! |

As a collector I want prices to get way down from these levels. Happy to have my cards worth a fraction of what they allegedly are now, if I could acquire cards at the same low prices. If we don't want to sell, then all we get from higher prices is higher cost to us collectors.

I saw that same card and passed on it. I'm looking for a nice 1948 Leaf Jackie Robinson to replace the one I have currently. That card was grossly overgraded. It probably wouldn't get higher than a 3 if cracked and resubmitted today because of the registration issues. I have a 52 Bowman Mantle that was recenty graded as a PSA 2.5 and SGC 3 with similar registration that otherwise looks like a 6. They've gotten much more strict with registration lately. And kudos to them for doing so. Registration issues are a major eye sore IMO.

Whenever one goes that low , especially considering the current climate for anything Jackie, I am sure they are 2nd guessing themselves. A consignment to Goldin looks like a better alternative after the fact.
PS - Nice Jackie Ted! |
