Say Hey!

Bruce (not the worst HOF selection now that Baines is in there) Sutter RC:

Hoyt (I'm 49 here so not quite dead yet) Wilhelm. This card bedeviled my friends and me as kids because our neighborhood card sources did not get high numbers.

Got some nicer 1971 OPC cards at the local show today. I'm a sucker for the yellow backs and rough edges on these!

I made some nice additions with help from the great folks on net54!

First, an upgrade of my Banks RC with help from ZiggerZagger in a smooth trade+cash deal. What a beauty!

1954_Banks_1 by boosandpearl, on Flickr

Next, I added a 1950B Yogi after searching for a while. I think this is one of the greatest catcher cards ever produced! (along with 1951B Campy)

1950_Berra_1 by boosandpearl, on Flickr

Thanks for the look and happy collecting everyone!

Sweet! I'm amazed that you could find such a nice selection at a local card show....unless of course you're in Winnipeg.

A couple of pickups from the recent Sterling Sports auction

Ted has been on my want list for decades and finished off the 1954 Bowman set

Duke gets me down to 8 low number stars in 1950.

1951 1952 1953 Color and 1955 are complete. 1953 Black and White down to Stengel

Getting there with the Bowman run though 1948 and 1949 need a lot of work

In the small potatoes department...

1972topps673754psa9oc.jpg

I am slowly putting together a 1972 high numbers set in PSA 9, with qualifiers accepted when the card looks pretty fine to me or is just too frickin' expensive to find in a straight 9. That's where the #673 Dave Marshall comes into play. It is a Ceiling Fan - an off-centered card where the image is pushed up toward the top edge, but since it has a very low pop in the 9 category, I was eager to grab him and knock it off of my list. Immediately after the auction ended, the only other PSA 9 listed on eBay (also with the OC qualifier and nearly identically centered) was gobbled up at a BIN that was almost twice as much as what I paid, so buying this one proved to be a good move. They don't come up for sale too often.

And I also picked up the #754 Frank Robinson Traded PSA 9 OC, which isn't too badly off-centered at all. It is available for trade for anyone interested.

1950 Bowman is such a great set. Under the radar because it doesn’t have the rookie power of 51 but damn these are beautiful cards.

Just picked up this Gil Hodges that’s been on my want list for a while. He has so many great looking cards, but I think this is the most attractive of them all.

Default Mini's

Lucky to pick up 8 boxes of '75 mini's in real nice condition. According to the price quote within one of the boxes, the current auction pricing is lower than 1980's wholesale

They are. My set is going to be among the lowest condition sets I have. Quite a few blazers but a lot of well loved cards including a well beat up Jackie Robinson. The entire run on 1950-53 Bowmans are among my favorites.

If that 56T Mantle doesn’t have back problems or creases not visible in the photo, the grading companies have reached a new level of absurdity.

Thank you! No there are a couple slight surface creases on the card.

Default 1961 topps set

I finally have 2 to post. I'm working on a 1961 Topps set, early in the game. Anyway I have 1 SGC card, a Hector Lopez and a Bauer (PSA) after he was traded to KC. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep the Lopez for my personal player collection, or use it for my PC and buy a PSA Lopez for my set.

Today I received 3 cards I ordered for the set (all raw). I also have 11 raw cards that I sort of started out with. I'm goint to scan the fronts of all the raw and post them in the next few days, and also start a thread on how I'm doing on the set.

I love that Laughlin Peter. I keep watching that complete set on ebay and coming close to pulling the trigger.

Since I am a crazy person I bought another Banks RC off ebay that really caught my eye. Now I have to decide which one to keep:

I also finally found my 53 Bowman Reese. Such a pretty card:

The Reese is a very pretty card. Isn't it amazing how good a card graded 5 can look. I have a 1958 Ted All-Star that's a 6 and it looks better than that, I think it's the bottom corners. Anyway, the Reese card is making me want to do the 1953 Bowmans.

Unreal 56 Mays.

I've been working on my Kaline run a lot lately.

And I landed a beautiful Kaline RC! Clear image and dead-centered. My only qualm is the red isn't as red as I'd like it to be, so I'll be on the lookout for another.

Default October pickups

Nice cards everyone. October has been nuts for me at work, but here are a couple of random LCS pickups I did manage to add. The Ryan is actually in better shape than it looks in a horribly old and scratched up screw-down; it's a nice EX card:

I just recently won 4 more for my set which to brings me down to 18 to go. I'll be sure to post them up when they arrive in a month or so.

You all might wonder how a collector could get excited over having acquired this rough condition PC. Well, I'm super excited! You see, Pete Runnels was my favorite player when I was a kid and Runnels played for the Senators. Hence, I am a Runnels collector, and I've been looking to acquire an example of this PC for 25+ years! Most of the dozen PCs in this set are not very difficult to find, but the Runnels PC is quite scarce. Of course, if anyone has a nicer example they are willing to part with, I'm all ears. Now then, if I could only find a complete Jello box with Runnels and a 1953-54 Briggs Meats 2-card panel with Runnels & Porterfield!
