And here's another recent one I got for, I think, a bargain. Ben Hogan was a famed scalawag of the west. He was or claimed to have been a spy for the Union, a spy for the confederates, a pirate, a an owner of many boomtown brothels (which apparently could make one rather famous), circus strongman, riverboat gambler, criminal, and the 'baddest man in the world'. He was also a prize fighter and apparently a pretty good one in that time who beat many local 'champions' around the west. I can't imagine his style was particularly scientific. He later found the Lord, reformed himself, and became a popular speaker on subjects of faith and living properly for many years. This is Hogan during that final period of redemption.

Two of Luther McCarty, winner of the first World White Heavyweight Championship, who was killed in the opening round of his 1913 title defense against Arthur Pelkey in Calgary, Canada.

Jem Smith. Same pose as used on the N167 Old Judge and N151 Duke Honest Long Cut cards.

Ruby Robert...holding two weight titles in the 19th century was no mean feat.
