With all the hoo ha over Minosos finally getting in the hall, where does Doby rank?
Was Minoso that much better than Larry Doby? I realize there are no points for #2, Doby joined the MLB 3 short months after Jackie Robinson.
The pricing on their 1952 topps shows a large disparity. Minoso is now the 2nd most valuable card in the 1952 low series set under Mays. I always felt Doby and Minoso were similar in ability. Curious thoughts on this and valuation of course!

I’d suggest that the 1952 topps value disparity is because Minoso’s 52T card is recognized as his rookie, but 52T is not Doby’s RC.

I think most of the value comes from the fact it's his "Rookie" where as Doby had some cards before them. I love the 52 set, but the cards are becoming a bit too rich for my taste, and I'm not even speaking of the high numbers!

A quick check shows I sold a minimum of SIX signed 52 topps minosos, before I finally settled on this one. Not for sale Iol, and they dont get much nicer. Should have realized the HOF rc crowd is pushing these up

I sold my 52T VG+ Minoso to a board member a while back. If you don't like it, I will give you a full refund no questions asked. Seriously.

They have very similar value, deserving hall of famers but hardly at the top end. I’d rate them about evenly. Too much is said about Doby’s debut date and race and not enough about his 140 OPS+. Man was a fine hitter, just a shame he didn’t get into more games.
Minnie’s value is in being a rookie and spiking on just being elected last week. It will calm down. Personally, I think his Bowman is his actual rookie. I know they both are because they are from the same year, but Topps 4th series is significantly after Bowman’s first series. His Bowman is his first. His muddier looking, cream border version of the Bowman is probably his true first major league card. |

When a player has multiple same year issues (and Minoso also is in Red Man that year), I don't think the market has ever differentiated in terms of which one came out first in valuing rookie cards.

Hence why I prefaced the statement with “Personally” and said they both are because of this fact, to start my statement.

Doby's 1947 Cleveland Indians picture pack is his first MLB piece, followed by the 1948 picture pack and TI postcard.
