Surprise, I may have the least desirable rarest card. My R308 Type 2 (large size) self-developing Tattoo Orbit of Pepper Martin is, as far as I know, one of a kind. The only other player I have ever seen for Type 2 is Jimmy Foxx.

I'll show this card since there are others from this set currently on the front page auction going on.
Edit: Actually, I stand corrected. Card is from a different set than the front page auction. Last edited by glchen; 12-15-2021 at 12:53 AM. |

Wonderful cards shown already....Type card collectors have a small advantage...
The Ruth is about the same height as the Collins...scans and all...

Here's one of the prize-winning cards from the 1968 Atlantic Oil set. With only a few $100 prizes, there were only a handful made and I have never seen another one.
![]() This Ruth is rare, but not as rare as the other cards shown in this amazing thread. I just love the way it looks...and it really bugs the guy who sold it to me when I post it. ![]() ![]() REA sold a 1.5 for $4,680 in April.

I may be able to joust ya; on the, "least desirable"; lol. 'Wickey' McAvoy, an 18 yr-old catcher from Rochester, NY; after his team had a series with the Baltimores; is signed by Connie Mack's A's, as a back-up catcher. Subsequently is sent to Baltimore for seasoning. While there, McAvoy catches a young pitcher named Ruth; undoubtedly is reporting analysis of this young pitcher back to Philly. When Mack begins negotiations with Dunn of Baltimore, Mr. Mack feels $10K is a bit steep for his liking; prolly thinking negotiations will follow. The rest is history as Boston came a calling. My guess is that after the passing of Powers and ATC pulling his card from the 350 run; someone from the A's office acquired this card from the printer (nameplate removed, no shadow); inserted it into the ol' typewriter (anyone remember those? lol) and gave Wickey his own 'card'; this was a big deal to some back then, having your own baseball card. I am still digging on this backstory but wanted to share what I have. Ben (Lover of all baseball history backstory; especially when it involves cards!) Guessing my rarest cards would be either my T4 Obak Cabinets or my Old Mill Cabinet.
The John Tiedeman T4 Obak Cabinet was trimmed to the oval, whereas the Claude Berry T4 Obak Cabinet is complete. The Joseph Laughlin H801-7 Old Mill Cabinet is one of my favorite items. I also have some "color freaks" which would qualify as rare. They include a Otto Miller B18, a E92 Harry Bemis, and a E102 Red Kleinow. Patrick |

Great cards Brian. Especially like the WaJo as I think any Altoona Tribune cards of any player are going to be exceedingly rare.
Question though, what are those several cards you posted last? Not familiar with the set, and assume they are all blank backed. |

Since a few collectors have previously posted Post-War items, I thought I'd post this fairly rare, desirable card of Pete Rose. But, Pete is not the reason for it being in my humble collection. I enjoy collecting unique '50s and '60s White Sox memorabilia; and this bad boy includes 3 Chisox Topps Rookie All-Star Team selections.

What great cards in this thread. Thanks to all of those sharing.
Picked this up a few days ago. Canceled on back to 1907. I don't remember seeing one like it (there must be others) . Not in hand but shipped... Love the cubs....

Post them up, Brian. Here is one I have only seen one of. And it could go in my thread about owning the same card twice too. I think I overpay every time I get one back because there is a tiny bit of sentimnetality in my bidding.

What an amazing thread. WOW
I like the Rodney Peete's too! I must have the lowest Hornsby, LOL. My eyes hurt, can't see why the low grade Did not realize there were only 2. I also have the Cobb. Looks the same but is an 8. We must be the only 2 guys who like these![]() Fit's in perfect with my low eye appeal collection. Last edited by Fuddjcal; 07-04-2025 at 11:34 AM. |

Chuck, I, too, have the Cobb in an 8. I love the fact that he is in an A's uniform and in a fielding position. A fairly rare and unappreciated set.

While I’ve seen plenty of the T216 Lajoie Philly cards, this is the only one that I’ve found with the Never Go Out back. If anyone has or has seen another, let me know. The Blank back Collins still seems to be the only one floating around and Jeff G tells me the Morehouse Merkle is a lone example as well.
Happy long weekend, Bob
