Ball point pen should be fine, but try not have it exposed to direct sunlight.
If you want, you can also use UV protective glass.
Here is an example of the dugout lineup card from my first date with my wife.
I did use UV protective glass for this framed piece that I gave to my wife on our 20th anniversary almost 12 years ago.

I don't display my lineup cards but for storage I use Ultra Pro (or similar) 1 Pocket or Photo pages and store them in binders. Hope this helps.

Thin jewelry cases, the ones that hold the case with pins

Should be able to buy them at antique shops

Been using them for years for everything!
