Jason, just now read your Yaz story. Loved it. Thanks for sharing your memories, brother. I hope you land some very pleasing YAZ cards or coins this year.

I once saw a 1967 World Series program that had "Yaz for Governor" written on the inside. Though Yaz stuck with baseball and Francis Sargent was handily reelected in the next election.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. Really kind of unexpected. As I told this story it occurred to me that it may have triggered my subconscious to become a baseball fan and card collector. My first cards I ever purchased were 1980 Topps wax packs and I still remember where I was standing when I got that Yaz card and how psyched I was. Nowadays I'm a semi-serious collector of his cards. I have all his base Topps cards in PSA 7 or better and am resolving now to grab some oddities like the Yaz for Mayor card and the '64 Stand-up SP.
The Yaz I cheered for was already way past his prime. Yet there was always something cool about the way he played the game and the way he tried so hard every minute he was out there. In some ways, I think this Fleer card captures that spirit better than any other...
