Great looking card first of all. I am curious how we know it's from 1907 and not 1908 as the corner that is recolored is where the date is supposed to be? .

Yes there is a way to differentiate between a 1907 and 1908 - read the last line of the text on the backside - talks of Cobb - "He is almost sure of leading the American League in batting for the season of 1907." |

| 1907 vs. 1908 Deitsche - Ty Cobb

Here is a side by side comparison of the 1907 and 1908 Ty Cobb Dietsche postcards. The 1907 is the one with the 1907 in the text (and where the corner is bad on my card) and the 1908 has a different paragraph and also shows 1908 along the left edge after the words "Detroit, Mich.".

1908 cards have the name printed on the front, 1907 don't. Cobb is in "white" , since he was also in the first series in 1907. If a player was not in the first series in 1907 , their 1908 card has the name on the front of the postcard in "Black ".

I do not mean to hijack Rick's thread, but 1908 cards sometimes come without the names printed on the front. Here is an example of a Cobb. (not mine)

There is some paper loss on the back of that corner - not sure what is going on with it. If a guy was going to replace a lost corner, you would think they would have clipped a corner from card from the same set - that side writing is the same in all the Detroit cards. |
