Were all of these cards issued over the 3 years or were they issued in series? I know nothing about them. Thanks!

I think some of each. There definitely are different series/releases and they were also issued separately in many countries. It may be, though, that some of the series continued to be released for more than one year. But the PSA dates mean little, as Magic and Bird would not have been issued in 1977 for example.

Are the copyright dates on the back the actual issue dates?

I think so but I also think for the earlier ones they may have continued to release them for more than that year.

So if a card is copyrighted 1978, it was probably issued in 1978 but may also have been issued in 1979. But was certainly not issued in 1977.

I think that's right but don't profess omniscience about Sportscasters.
