Hypothetical scenario: An insurance claim is made, then the "thief" comes forward, confesses to his actions, produces the cards, and to ascertain whether the insurance claim declared amount was honest, they are submitted to PSA.

A year and a half later, when PSA has finally graded them, it turns out they weren't worth anything close to the claimed amount.

But then, the "victim" says the cards the "thief" produced, that went to PSA, were different than the ones taken at the National.

It will be very interesting to see how this actually plays out, and to hear from all sides. I'm thinking there is potential for this to be made into a movie. Either a mystery with twists and turns, or a Three Stooges type comedy.

Our hobby is a bizarre place. My favorite part is that 7 people (at present vote) here think his story is legit or mostly legit and he is an actual victim.

If the guy who took the cards gives them back, there would no longer be an insurance claim.

And I would say all the votes for He's a moron count him as a victim, just an unsympathetic one.

I’d love to hear from some of them for their full thoughts on why this story makes sense as a possible event.

Maybe the missing detail is that what the "thief" said, and what the "victim" misunderstood, is that $99,000 of the $100,000 was non-fungible.
