Default Least Favorite Pre-War Card You Own - Let's have some fun

We litter the Board with all these great cards that we pick up and love...but let's be honest, there's a pre-war card or two that you own that you really just don't like (whether it's b/c of aesthetics, or price you paid, or it's part of a run and a necessity, etc. etc.). I'll kick it off:

1. I really don't like what I paid for this...way back in 2005ish or so from Leon.
2. It doesn't fit at all with what I collect.
3. It's ugly in condition and overall.

Thanks!

Bill

I used to own this card. I hate it and I hate this set. I hate the card bc it’s part of the set and bc it’s the same exact picture/person as honus Wagner. I hate the set bc I don’t think the depictions look anything like the players and I hate that Tinker and Wagner are twins.

This is one of my least favorite images in the set. Just a big ass shot. Then throw in the creases and overly dark and smeared back. The one redeeming quality might be the ink transfer on the front but somehow that even seems to make it look worse.

Don't you wish the Goudey's were an unnumbered series? I can't responsibly afford to complete the set anymore with the price boom, but before that it was the duplicate Gehrig that kept me from doing a 239 set.

Ryan will get a kick out of this one.

I don't like that I had to pay up for Irv Young masquerading as Cy Young, and I really don't like that I had to do it 4 times, they are in rough shape because I refused to pay any more than I had to. Painful and the worst part of building an E98 set.

Default Unrealistic pose

I definitely don't hate this set and it would be a stretch to even say I hate the card. I'm happy to have it. But I hate the picture. Groom was a right-handed pitcher, so presumably he is somewhere in his windup. Or is he batting? The pitching rubber was introduced in 1893, . . .

Phil, you are spot on. That is my least favorite card. But I dislike it so much I have never owned one. I know it pains you too!

Hands down E90-1 Jackson with those often misplaced red lips. Close second, E107/W600 Fred Flintstone in street clothes mislabeled as Honus Wagner.

Not only does it not bear any resemblance to the Big Train, it bears little resemblance to any human, with oddly uneven eyes and ridiculous lips. What creature is this?!?

Default E145 Honus Wagner

Although I don’t own it anymore, can anyone argue with him looking like Grandpa Munster?

Keep in mind, it’s a card that you own or have recently owned.

This one has always bugged me, for several reasons. That glove looks absurd, his face looks creepy, and he was allegedly part of the Black Sox scandal.

However, I've had it for a while and it's starting to grow on me...

I like all my Pre-War cards. I am usually not a condition snob. It has a great picture of the player but that is about it. The card was removed from a scrap book and all but the paper thin front you see is still attached to that scrap book. It is a T210 Series 3 Coyle I plan to upgrade.

Is it just me or did the forum go from pics being a little to small to being WAY too big now? I have to shrink the file down to really small or they are HUGE when posted.

Agreed. The face and glove arm is pretty creepy. Is that a left handed glove on his right hand? It seems to be an ill-conceived version of the more natural looking image like that found on the T3 Burns below. The glove now appears to be a six-fingered glove on the T3! Maybe someone can post the source photo, if it's known.

It certainly looks as though Bill was too sleepy to grab the correct glove. Maybe that's why he showed so little enthusiasm on the mound. He never seemed to have the right equipment.

Everybody kept complaining about not being able to upload pictures so I think Leon expanded the size of picture you could upload. Same thing happens to me.

The main problem before was most people kept trying to upload way too big of files from their phones.

Ha I actually bought a Irv Cy on purpose (E97 Briggs) because I thought the masquerade was a fun side story. Once though.
Just Once ! Hahaha 😝

I don't know if another was ever found, but around ten years ago when I bought this Player's League card it was an unlisted example. I paid some ridiculously small price (I think it was $25) for a 1-of-1 1890 Old Judge card, but man is this thing ugly

The "Big Head" strip cards are turn-offs to me, and the only reason I own this one is because I'm working on a master set of Sam Rice's cards.

I don’t like any type of strip card set that doesn’t use some what of a real type photo. I don’t care for E91 set either.

That actually is a card based on an image of Tinker. The Wagner is the one that stole Tinker’s image.

The E91 Set A is NOT a generic set of images, they used images of the players depicted in Set A for those cards. Those players that were in Set A but are also in the E91 Set B are also not Generic Images. Set C is the fully generic one.

That is a picture of Tinker. It was the Set C that is fully a generic set as they changed the teams and just reassigned images to new players.

I'd be glad to take that off your hands!

My least favorite pre-war card is probably my Kimball O'Neill. I should love it because it has everything going for it that I like:

1. 19th century
2. Great player
3. Fits my 19th century team lineup perfectly
4. Is a pretty decent grade

But I just don't like it and I can't bring myself to do so. It's coloring is drab, I'd almost rather it were sepia like OJ, and it's been scribbled on with pencil it looks like. Either way, it's my least favorite pre-war card.

That is a picture of Tinker. It was the Set C that is fully a generic set as they changed the teams and just reassigned images to new players.
I second that sentiment with a Tinker photo head for comparison. Throwing in a little Waddell, because he never could resist chasing after fire trucks.

Val, I'm with you on the "big head" strip cards. Like you, I needed this one for my White Sox type set:

Also, the W9316 strip cards ain't so hot either...

It would be hilarious if someone with Photoshop skills would create and post "strip cards" of Beavis and Butt-Head.

Thank you for identifying what the W9316 artwork looks similar to...I didn't make that connection before!

I don’t remember what I paid for this, but it wasn’t much. At first I was happy to track down a Zeenut of JJ Clarke. But man, the more I look at this card, the more I dislike it.

Look at his throwing hand.
Look at his feet.
Where is his neck?
Why does the jersey look tight and the pants so baggy?

I suppose it’s good for a laugh but it really is an ugly card.

Richard.
