Vintage Breaks pack swapping

I just watched the YouTube clip. The most noteworthy thing to me was how blatantly obvious the pack swap was.
So, we can apparently add Chris Gilmore and vintage breaks dot com to the growing list of breakers whose business practices are questionable, at best. sigh

I just watched it too. The switch is obviously done and leaves me feeling like the trust and integrity of the hobby is crumbling ever so gradually and it’s such a shame. I hope I’m wrong because I do like to give the benefit of the doubt.

I would say this isn't really a thing. If the first pack had been opened, and then replaced, it would have, because the breaker could have seen the McHale or Magic or Bird, and then kept it. The person who bought in got all the cards in an unopened pack of 1981-82 Topps basketball, exactly what he was going to. Whether or not there was a second pack is really immaterial. Now if he had busted the seal on the first pack, different story. But that didn't seem to happen.
I have broken with Vintage Breaks before, and specifically Chris Gilmore. I'm not really a fan of his, and it took 6 months to get a resolution on a missing $25 card from my order. But after that time, he way overpaid me to close it out, sending approx $200+ worth of graded cards as an apology. I'm all for calling out scammers/scams, and I do so regularly myself. I just don't think this is any kind of issue. VB probably sends an unopened box of 1981-82 Topps to Chris and he may have had a couple on the desk because more people ordered them for him to break afterwards. I see no malice and no profit incentive.

It's not the first issue with Gilmore. I'm surprised VB is keeping him around.

That first pack looked unopened, the second one looked like it had been resealed. And it opened strangely too. Unless being in a box for decades makes it similar to being ironed back closed. Wax generally opened very easily. Sometimes just storing it poorly made it open.

Nothing new with these type of people. Is it harder to find honest people now than dishonest? Some of these people will screw their own mother over for $1. It’s sad to watch. I don’t partake in any of this break nonsense. It’s 90 plus percent shady characters. I trust very little vintage sealed product anymore as well. $$ brings out the worst people
