With all due respect to Joe, he is wrong. It's authentic.

Ok, don’t agree to sloppy, especially the BB’ in Cobb.

I'm not sure. It looks like it might be a bank check rather than one of his own since it doesn't have the Tyrus R. Cobb on the left side and maybe why it's not done in green ink. Also some of the letters in mine look totally different than the other one (the A in Aug as a notable example).

Both checks are obviously fine.
For those of you over 30, who know what a check is... How many times have you hurried or scribbled your signature on a check? Neatness is hardly a priority. You cannot expect two random examples to have perfect or identically matching letter formation. |

The first check is a teller's check, available at the bank to anyone who, say, had forgotten his checkbook.
It was filled out by the teller, and signed by Cobb. |

That is my theory as well after seeing the inconsistencies with the 2nd check.

This is a good theory. Although the numeric amount was certainly filled in by Cobb. The little loop on the 5 in 500 is a perfect match (and likely written amount as well, IMO).

Yeah. The little loop matches. But that's all. The slant is totally different. I stand by my "theory."
