The cards definitely not worth millions, so there must have been a lot of memorabilia.

Awful that the cards were stolen, of course.
However, while reading the story, it bothered me that it didn't go into Horace Moore's history. Along with a couple of generalized statements about not being allowed in the majors, the most we get is: "Juakee Moore says his dad, Horace Moore, is a former Negro League baseball legend in Huntsville." His son says so - that's it? There's no apparent effort to research Moore's history to at least state his playing time as a fact, instead leaving it as just a claim attributed to a son. I wanted to see that angle fleshed out. What team/s did he play for? Position? How was he a legend? The story sets up a proud history but then just stepped around it. Not every player could be Satchel or Gibson, but every person has a story. Google's first search result helped scratch the itch. Moore played for the Birmingham Black Barons. I won't ruin it, but Moore has a fun story, and it's a short read: https://www.huntsville.org/blog/list...optimist-park/ |
