You're not wrong Jim, back runs are definitely a rabbit hole. The problem is when you come to this sub, Leon and his pre-war henchmen start feeding you the drug in small doses and before you know it you find yourself working on a Master Set, High grade Set, Back Runs, Dark obscure type collections that only you, a guy in Ohio, and 3 members here know about.

Hi, my names Phil and I collect little pictures of men in uniform...

(Group) Hi Phil, welcome to the group, would you like a Diet Coke and a cigarette?

Phil, here's another from the "rabbit hole." Thanks to Bryan L. for creating this presentation of my back run, which unfortunately, I haven't been able to add to in a good while:

Thanks, Phil. I think Leon will agree with you, as I was fortunate to win this PVE of Jennings some years ago in Heritage's auction of Leon's first collection.

Great thread, love me a good back run! Some amazing cards shown already.

I've started probably 20 different back runs and always ended up buying a tough low pop card I had to have and deciding to sell the common backs from the run.

It's cool to see David R's HOF back run again. I didn't remember your name but your collection stuck in my head and after I knocked out a lot of the rare backs, I decided to copy your idea. This is one back run I think I'll finish. I still have a few to get. There are 37 backs in my run and 36 HOFers in the set. So I'm planning to make one collage that has my best cards and then another one that tries to fit all 36 HOFers in. That is a project for another day that I haven't started trying to figure out yet.

Luke
You have some great ones! I had a really hard time finding a BL460 HOFer and had to settle on condition. You found a great one. Lots of super tough cards. My goal was to get all the backs with a different HOFer on the front and to include all the Cobbs, Mattys, Youngs and Johnsons.

hahaha, so true

And the worst of it is, sometimes you know that guy in Ohio exists, but you can't find him.

Btw, great cards everyone!

Couple that I've worked on - getting cost prohibitive to add much more on these right now for me!

Nice ones Scott. Love the Matty run. Of course, I'm a little biased.

I agree that it's getting too expensive to add anymore. I've definitely stalled out.

I love these posts, you guys have some awesome stuff in your collections, and this just speaks to me. I don't have anything to my name worth sharing in this thread, but may have to take some steps to address that.

really impressive posts in this thread. back runs are a labor of love, some are easier than others, but when we are talking about cards that are 100+ years old, sometimes even the "commons" can be tougher to find.

I was working on a T206 Krause Portrait back run and had all of the non-very rare backs, excluding the SC 350/25. After looking for months, I just gave up. That was around the time I decided I was going to alter my goal and go for a 520 set. As I've been accumulating cards for the 520, I've decided my secondary goal is going to be to collect sub-sets of the non-super rare backs. For example, the 34 card SC 150/649OP set and a 250 card Polar Bear set. Those will still take a lot of time and money to complete, but I think for me, it will be more satisfying to spend $3000 on 55 Polar Bear backs for a subset instead of spending $3000 on a low grade Carolina Brights card to complete a player back run. If my budget was on par with some of the budgets other board members here have, I would have a number of back run projects in the works. For now, gotta make due with what I have.

Missing the Lenox Brown back :-( there are a couple of them floating around, there is a fella on the board here that has one and as soon as I save up enough dough or cash out my 401K it will remain in his possession :-)
