Was just 2 bidders going back and forth from $1600 up to the final price. Weird.

Especially if they’re both motivated. And hopefully the winner actually has the cash to honor their bid…

Are you all sure this is a legit sale? Before assuming so, wait and see if the seller ever gets positive feedback for this. Also, watch and see if these same premiums suddenly start showing up more on Ebay now, usually with much higher than expected starting bids or BIN prices.
A few months ago, I came across a series of Ebay auctions all selling the same/similar 2002 Topps 206 game used bat relic card of Honus Wagner. There were several, about 4 or 5, that supposedly sold for anywhere from just under $2K to over $5K. Not always from the same seller, nor always to the same buyer. But with some similar parties through the mix, and some people bidding in multiple auctions for the same Wagner relic card. The odd thing was, not a one of those supposedly sold and completed sales of that similar card resulted in any of the sellers ever getting one single positive feedback reference from the sale of their Wagner relic card. Now I could see 1, maybe 2, such different auctions where the different buyers decided not to leave the seller feedback, but for 4 or 5 different auctions of the same somewhat rare (only 300 supposedly produced) relic card suddenly selling over the course of just a month or two?!?! No way this wasn't some scam involving multiple parties, or at least people with multiple Ebay accounts. And that doesn't include the multiple other listings of the same card that didn't result in a sale, all again during this same time period. Prior to that sudden run of Ebay auctions for that particular card, a copy of it would pop up on Ebay maybe (and that's a big maybe) 2 or 3 times a year, at most. The volume of Ebay auctions for this particular card suddenly popping up was already extremely fishy to begin with. There is actually one current listing of this same Wagner bat relic card sitting on Ebay now, at a $4,999 BIN or Best Offer price. And at that amount, sit it will. Despite there having supposedly been multiple sales of this same card, in this price range/vicinity, just back in May-June of this year. Not all Ebay sales are the same, or necessarily real, it seems. Don't know for certain where this one with the Ruth premium stands. Last edited by BobC; 10-13-2022 at 12:48 PM. |

This feels very not real to me. There is a better one listed fright now for a BIN that is a lot less than this.

Thanks for the tutorial, BobC. I've got to learn to be more suspicious about these sorts of hijinks, shenanigans, and monkeyshines!

I actually started laughing out loud as I saw one after another of these auctions rolling out on Ebay. Figured someone was trying to make it look like the market for those Wagner relic cards seriously jumped all of a sudden. Even reached out to the seller of the very first of these that supposedly sold and asked why he got no positive feedback. Sure enough, said the buyer never paid or ever responded back when he tried contacting them. Did say he had contacted one of the underbidders I believe, and was going to do a deal with one of them. Seemed like most everyone bidding on his auction also continued to show up bidding in several of the other auctions that popped up for this same card then. Got me thinking the first seller I communicated with may have been part of whatever this scam/ruse was as well, and responded to me as he did to make it seem he wasn't a party to it all. |

Seems very possible that it’s a fake result.
