Trent Grisham has been red hot in the playoffs for the Padres so far, but his numbers during the season were pretty rough:
AB - 451 H - 83 HR - 17 BA - .184 R - 58 RBI - 53 SB - 7 OBP - .284 SLG - .341 OPS - .626 Brian |

I recall Dan Uggla had some awful numbers ( K's and AVG) but hit enough HR's to keep him in the lineup a few times

In 1999 Vinny Castilla hit 33 HRs and drove in 102 RBIs but had an OPS+ of 84. That shows the advantages of playing half your games in Coors Field. Compare that to Adam Dunn in 2012 .204 BA 41 HRs 96 RBI but an OPS + of 114.

About Rob Deer.. wow, that’s even more extreme than my Muncy example. So is Deer the most extreme example of HR vs BA?

George McBride has the lowest batting average of any player with 5,000 MLB at-bats, which presumably testifies to his defensive excellence. Ironically his nickname, Pinch, reflects his reputation for hitting well in the clutch.
