The Mathewson is literally missing a piece out of the bottom. That's a 1, not a 2. That's all 3 that appear to have originally been cited. Some overgraded cards going for less 1 time is not a crisis. I don't think the investors need to panic here. I mean, OH NO THE SKY IS FALLING! |

Oh apparently I had the end date wrong, but I might have bid on a couple of these and completely missed the auction. I don't constantly search ebay for all cards I may be interested in, and would be more likely to have seen them in a heritage or REA auction. I believe there is a good chance others missed these as well.

In what is hopefully the last of my blue chip posts, here are two E254 Colgan cards of players who eventually became major league umpires (George Moriarty and Al Orth).
Thus the cards you are viewing in this post are Blue (umps in Colgan's) Chips. Brian (these Blue Chips not mine) Last edited by brianp-beme; 11-11-2022 at 03:50 PM. |

Keeping in mind that this is the prewar (WWII) part of the forum, regarding blue chips, just take a look at the 25 highest priced lots in the REA auction ending tmrw: Cobb, Wagner, Young, Johnson, Mathewson, t206 and t205 rarities, and 1914 CJ HOFers. Enough said….
Regarding post WWII vintage, I have no doubt that Mantle, Mays, Robinson, Aaron, key 1952 topps cards, etc fit into the blue chip discussion as well. I just don’t play in that playground much and don’t know if the fact that these cards tend to be more available/common compared to cards from before 1940 makes a difference. |
